Our volunteers are at the heart of the Elizabeth B. Pert Library. Their time, talent, and enthusiasm help us create a warm, welcoming space for everyone in our community. Whether you love books, enjoy chatting with neighbors, or simply want to lend a helping hand, we’re always excited to welcome new volunteers into our library family.


Volunteer Roles

We offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, so there’s something for every interest and skill set.

Library & Collection Support

  • Shelving books and materials
  • Weeding outdated items from the collection
  • Stickering and labeling materials
  • Book repair and care of older or rare titles

Front Desk & Patron Support

  • Desk coverage (checking out materials, greeting patrons, answering questions)
  • Program assistant (helping during story hours, crafts, or community events)
  • Make-n-take craft volunteer

Book Sales & Fundraising

  • Boxing, sorting, and pricing for book sales
  • Fundraising committee member
  • Rare book seller

Community & Facilities

  • Outreach and promotion (sharing library news or event flyers)
  • Decorating for seasons or special events
  • Recycling and garbage assistance
  • Gardening or light maintenance as needed

Leadership & Governance

  • Serving as a library board member

Scheduling & Commitment

Volunteers typically serve on regular weekly or monthly shifts, arranged with library staff.
We simply ask that you arrive on time and let us know if you need to miss a day!
